At the Center of the Square

Wooster Square was named after David Wooster, the first Major General of the Connecticut troops in the Army of the Revolution. This medallion is placed at the heart of the park.

Squirrels of Wooster Square

There are many of them and they are bold yet friendly, unassuming yet arrogant. They eat peanuts and bread and pizza crusts left by some of the residents. Milo is in heaven here because he can get to within inches of them but he has never caught one yet. They are just a little too fast for him and of course, he can't climb trees.

Columbus Day

At one end of the park in Wooster Square stands a statue of Christopher Columbus. Wooster Square, aka Little Italy, was an area where many Italian immigrants resided. Today there still is a larger Italian population and influence. On Columbus Day in October Chris's statue had been decorated with about 25 beautiful wreaths from all sorts of Italian Clubs.
Most of the wreaths looked similar but all of them complimented autumns gorgeous tones.

Blessing of the Animals

Each year the Episcopal Church of St. Paul and St. James blesses any of the little critters who are brought for a blessing. It was on October 4 which is usually close to St. Francis of Assisi Day.
From right to left...Rev. Harlon L. Dalton, Assistant Rector, Rev. Dr. Barbara Cheney, Rector, and Rev. Cheney (don't know his first name!)
