The Easter Vigil

During this time between Good Friday and Easter Morning many people keep vigil at the 'tomb' of Christ. This is a statue of Mary that sits outside of St. Michael's Church in Wooster Square. I took it at night which is why there are such eery shadows on her face. I can't help but think that as a mother grieving her lost child, Mary grieved deeply.

  1. I am glad to hear that some Americans keep vigil at this time.

For the family and the disciples in Jerusalem, unaware of what would happen on Sunday, this Holy Saturday must have been incredibly sad.
To imagine Jesus sealed in a stone tomb is so painful.

  2. I love your Easter Vigil photo and Easter Day photo! We attended a wonderful 2 hour Easter Vigil service last night at our church which began outside the sanctuary by a fire - we then walked into a dark sanctuary and eventually the lights came on, Alleluias came in, music, etc. It was a wonderful prelude to the good news of today, Easter!
Happy Easter to you and yours
